Upgrade of MacBook

I’m thinking of upgrading my MacBook from 512Mb ram to 1Gb or 2Gb. Do you have any advice for me? Should I buy 1Gb module to get to 1Gb/256Mb or is it better to have same ram size for both slots (512+512Mb or 1024+1024Mb)?

Because the memory in the two slots is configured as a contiguous array of memory, both SO-DIMMs must be the same size and type for the interleaving function to be used to improve performance.

Have you got some benchmarch that can help me to choose between these configurations?

Disassembly you mac:
Removing Ram or HD in MacBook is quite simple (see all info here).

Prices:
ram prices are very differents: 1Gb at $119.98, at 198$, at 235€

What to choose? Help meeee!

I bought a PowerBook with a single 512MB dimm to have slot space for future mem upgrade without waste dimm.
But the new MacBook needs pairs of dimms, so you have to waste your 2×256MB dimms and buy additional 2×512MB.

I have also a macbook and i have 2x 512mb… and i have to say it’s better… but i have no idea if it wouldn’t be the same with one?

Ti consiglio di toglierti il pensiero e passare direttamente a 2 GB (1+1): te la cavi con circa 250 euro all’essedi.it, marca Corsair.
Vedrai che il MB volerà… :)

Hi man …. i got since day one 2 sticks of 1GB of RAM for my (intel based) MacBook. I took each of them at 84€ + IVA (=20% for foreigner readers).

No particular brand, the first “couple” made the machine freeze at some point, the second one (same brand) went up smoohtly.

I got them from my local Apple “pusher”.

84 euro? this is quite low… but I don’t want a freezing mac!!

Meglio infatti prendere della RAM “branded”: di solito dovrebbe essere più testata e certificata, senza contare che il negozio stesso, in caso di malfunzionamento o di difetto, le cambia senza batter ciglio.
A luglio 1GB SoDIM DDR2 costava 97€ al pubblico sull’essedishop (essedi.it), poi dopo l’estate sono aumentate… :(
Tuttavia è una spesa che farà la differenza: ho risuscitato anche il mio PB, con 2 GB di RAM, e ho letto ovunque che, se già OS X ama avere molta RAM, sui nuovi processori Intel, soprattutto a causa di Rosetta, ha effetti positivi ancora più sorprendenti.

Dev’essere un periodo di rialzo, accidenti a loro! Forse cercare altrove potrebbe avere dei risultati migliori…

torno solo ora, a me con le RAM a 84 euro + IVA a modulo da 1GB non ha freezato MAI .. fate vobis
